Daniel Johnston - Grievances
Most people try and protect their hearts so they don't get hurt. Daniel Johnston poured (and continues to pour) his heart into his music (in basements & bedrooms, mostly), filling many cassettes with his raw, heartfelt vocals and instrument playing. He has played piano, chord organ, and guitar over the years. Though not the most technically skilled by any means, Daniel's unique brand of music has been enjoyed by Sonic Youth, Kurt Cobain (who wore Daniel's iconic shirt during interviews), Beck, and many, many more. Daniel's early life — he's currently doing relatively fine and finishing a final(?) tour — was incredibly tumultuous, filled with mental illness, running away, lots of drawing, mental hospitals, grand delusions, and forcing his way into the music industry, and is worth looking into even if you don't enjoy Daniel's music.
